Last week bridal and fashion designer Monique Lhuillier stopped by Highland Park Village to celebrate the opening of the Goop pop-up shop, where she and actress Gwyneth Paltrow collaborated on a ready-to-wear line exclusive to the store. We sat down with Lhuillier to discuss the hottest trends for spring and summer bridal, as well as what makes the Dallas bride so special. Check it out below.
What do you think makes the Dallas bride unique?
I think the Dallas bride has such a great appreciation for quality clothing. They are also willing to take a chance when it comes to adding fashion elements into a wedding dress—things like color. They have seen so many dresses so they want theirs to be different. The Dallas bride is sophisticated, well-traveled, and wants something unique.
What’s your favorite spring/summer trend for brides?
I would say my favorite trend, or style, is when everything looks effortless and light. The beading is just dusted, the layers are very light, and even the lace is delicate. I like my brides to feel ethereal. So the trend is light, airy, and delicate.
Do you have a favorite silhouette when it comes to wedding dresses?
So many of them are flashing in front of my eyes! The silhouette I love for brides is a ball gown that is a soft A-line. It’s still full, but not overly. The reason I picked this one is because when you go out for the evening, people typically wear more slim styles. Your wedding is the only time you can wear something so full—you should incorporate some fantasy into your look. It’s such a special moment in your life and I think your dress should be over-the-top and more interesting so that it stays in your mind forever.
