Tradition, aesthetics and style all are big players when it comes to planning your wedding. Whether you want a boho, glamorous, rustic, or traditional gathering, everyone seeks the same end goal- a gorgeous night.
Most brides incorporate color into their event but can shy away from breaking tradition in fear of ruining the overall look. Well I’ve got some good news- its your day and there are no rules. But just to be safe- follow these guidelines for adding unconventional color while still maintaining overall cohesiveness and tradition. Jump for the details.
The dress: There’s no rulebook that says you have to wear a white dress. It’s your special day, so why not wear your favorite color? (My favorite color is pink, and I am swooning over the Ines Di Santo dress pictured above.)
Make it work: Instead of a highly saturated gown, opt for the softer shade. It still gives you that bridal feeling, while adding an ethereal and romantic personal touch.
The bouquets: Can’t pick just one favorite color? Remedy your indecisiveness by giving each bridesmaid a different colored bouquet (and the groomsmen can coordinate with different colored ties). In one of our Real Wedding posts, Hannah and Klayton do a fantastic job of incorporating a spectrum of colors into their whimsical wedding and do an even better job of not letting it get too Dr. Seuss-y.
Make it work: Less is more, so that’s why we chose to color the bouquets rather than the dresses. Dress the ‘maids in a neutral, that way the pops of color aren’t too overwhelming.
The jewelry: Maybe your favorite color is blue but you made your wedding themed yellow to match your favorite flower. Or maybe your great grandmother has passed down some sapphire earrings that don’t collaborate with the trendy coral bridesmaid dresses that have already been purchased. Once again, there’s no rulebook so go ahead and wear them! You’re wearing white anyways, so the colored jewelry will look beautiful on you, and that’s what matters.
Make it work: Keep it small, especially if you’re venturing away from your wedding colors. You want it to be special, not distracting.
If you’ve learned anything from this post, throw away that rulebook and trust what you think looks best. Keep calm and color on!
