This love story starts with a glittered boa and a kidnapping (of sorts). Christie and Bryce were students at Lloyd V. Berkner High School. Christie was a sophomore and Bryce was a junior. In April of 2006, Christie flipped on Bryce’s bedroom light at 5:45 a.m., introduced herself, and welcomed him to the Varsity Man team with aforementioned boa and a hand-crafted shirt. Before this fateful morning, the pair had never met or even knew each other existed. They met up with the other cheerleaders for breakfast and headed to school. But then the love story stops. For a good while. They never spoke during the rest of the school year. Even while attending the same college—Texas A&M–they never hung out or ran with the same crowd. Then, in December of 2011, she was back home for the holidays and she went out in Uptown. For the first time, the pair hung out and hit it off immediately. According to Christie, “We literally hadn’t seen each other in years, probably for the better because by that point we were both more the wiser and mature, at least as much as you can be at 21 and 22 years old. We hit it off immediately and before you knew it the rest is history.”
In May, Christie planned a trip to visit her family in New Orleans and attend Jazz Fest. After a long day in the hot sun listening to music while drinking sparkling wine out of a can, her mother suggested dinner in the French Quarter. As they started walking up to the Cathedral, her mother suggested taking a photo of her and her brother Matthew. After a few pictures, Bryce stepped in from the other side and asked if he could get in the picture. Immediately, she was in shock that he showed up. But then she could see her dad out of the corner of her eye and she quickly realized what was happening. Bryce got down on one knee and asked her for her hand in marriage. They celebrated at dinner at Muriel’s on Jackson Square and spent the rest of the night celebrating in New Orleans.
Christie and Bryce are both graduates from Texas A&M University. She studied leadership and is now a recruiter for Aquent, a marketing and creative staffing agency. Bryce studied business management and is now a principal/co-owner of Texadia Systems, a technology, audiovisual integration, and design firm. They will marry Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Dallas Arboretum.
