Hillary Tipps had only been working at residential real estate company Ebby Halliday for a few months when she met Dan Hansen at their office Christmas party. “I had seen him at two prior Ebby functions, but we had never actually had the opportunity to talk to each other,” she says. Hillary likes to say it was because he was too nervous to talk to her. Dan would disagree and says it was all part of his plan. No matter who you ask, they can’t deny there were immediate sparks and the couple has been together since.
Two years after they met, Dan devised a plan to propose to Hillary at a Christmas party at Gleneagles Country Club. The first part of his plan? Convince Hillary to meet him at the party so he could pick up the ring on the sly on the way to the event. That was the easy part. The next phase of his proposal involved leaning on two friends’ help to set up a romantic gazebo so that he could pop the question. As they were mixing and mingling with friends, Dan told Hillary he wanted to get some fresh air outside. Hillary told him she would, but that it was cold and she wanted his coat. “He told me no because the ring was in his pocket, so I was thinking he was being kind of jerk,” she says. They walked down the stairs to the candle-filled gazebo with a gorgeous view of the golf course. She looked out to the course and when she turned around, Dan was on one knee. As he started to ask her to marry him, they were overcome with emotions and they both started to cry. After she said yes, they were greeted with cheers from their friends who were watching from the balcony.
Hillary is a Realtor with Ebby Halliday and Dan is a manager at Home Team Insurance, an affiliate of Ebby Halliday. They will marry Saturday, November 21, 2015, at The Old Red Museum.
