Last week I had the pleasure of sitting down with designer Sareh Nouri at Neiman Marcus Downtown. The Persian designer, known for her timeless and sophisticated designs utilizing the most luxurious lace, was in town for a trunk show for her latest collection. We chatted about her inspirations, favorite accessories, and why she loves dressing Dallas brides. Read on for the Q&A.
D Weddings: What is the inspiration behind your Fall 2016 collection?
Sareh Nouri: The inspiration was my Persian heritage. We have a lot of intricate designs, art calligraphy, and mosaic art. The intricate detailing of the lace is inspired by my heritage.
D: What is your most memorable moment as a designer?
S: Well, it would be the stores I got into—that is my ultimate dream as a designer. One of them was Neiman Marcus; it was such an amazing moment. It’s extremely competitive and very difficult but I’m so blessed to have the opportunity to work with such great teams.
D: I read that you love to use French silk in your designs. Why?
S: My top thing was always quality, the fit, and the fabric. From day one I said, “If I do it I want to do it the right way and I want to do it extremely high-end.” I partnered with the House of Sophie Hallette, which is a French lace house based out of France. Not a lot of people here were familiar with that name but it’s the same lace house that made Kate Middleton’s lace for her wedding dress. (Ed note: Amal Clooney also wore a gown with Sophie Hallette’s lace.) It is very well-known in Europe and used by Elie Saab, Chanel, Dior, and Valentino. They are extremely high-end and extremely, extremely expensive, but you can tell the quality. When the model comes out in that particular dress with that particular lace, everybody has a different reaction. I think it makes a huge difference.
D: What is your favorite accessory to wear with a wedding dress?
S: I’m not a huge fan of necklaces because I love a clean neckline. I love sashes and I think that it can completely change the look of the wedding dress. I tell the brides they can do a beautiful veil. They can do that for the ceremony and then they can take off the veil for the reception and add a sash for two completely different looks.
D: What have you noticed that is different about the Texas bride?
S: I feel that the Texas bride wants more of a grand dress. They want sparkles and more volume. Here they like the drama. Weddings are extremely important in this area so I think they want that “wow” dress.
