While we travel for destination weddings and will definitely leave the state for our honeymoon, when it comes to planning an engagement photoshoot, we tiptoe around boundaries that confine us to the same shot (typically, a close-up in a park with the ring front and center). Adventurous couple Jon and Cara wanted to try something new that they would be able to call all their own.
Originally, they had an underwater shoot in mind. They approached photographer Courtney Hanson who, picking up on their risk-taking nature, suggested a destination shoot. It was one she’d always wanted to try: The Bonneville Salt Flats in Salt Lake City, Utah.
On the day of the anticipated shoot, underwater they were–it would not stop raining. But the skies cleared as they approached the Salt Flats. What was originally a damper on their plans (no pun intended) turned out to be what made their journey worthwhile: the rain had created a mirror effect on the salt bed. This resulted in nearly flawless pictures that look Photoshopped, even though they were all shot on film.
The Salt Flats photoshoot challenges couples everywhere to try something new with their engagement pictures–and reap the rewards from thinking outside the box. Why don’t you hike to the top of a mountain overlooking a valley (#weddingbody), or go skydiving with a GoPro (the expressions will be priceless)? Whatever you choose, you can’t go wrong with something that captures you best as a couple.
