Four is a lucky number for couple Kale Kiser and Jackie McGrath set to be married on November 4, 2017. The “meet cute”–a fictional scene in a movie where a future romantic couple meet for the first time–for Kale and Jackie definitely belongs in a high school romantic comedy. Jackie first met Kale through a friend’s boyfriend.
“When we pulled up to the boyfriend’s house, she told me I could pick from the two boys–one played baseball and [other] one played soccer,” said the bride, Jackie. “Well, I originally said the soccer player until they walked out and I remember saying, ‘Wow, I pick the brunette!’ It was Kale.”
Soon after meeting, Kale asked Jackie to a junior high Valentine’s Day dance on February 4, 2006 (note the number four’s reappearance.) It was at that dance that Kale asked Jackie to be his girlfriend. That date would inspire the couple to choose November 4 as their wedding date.
The couple dated throughout high school at Plano West and until their junior year of college; Jackie went to the University of Kansas and Kale went to play baseball as the University of Nebraska. The two remained friends and Kale was drafted to play baseball with the Chicago White Sox.
“Soon after graduation, we decided it was stupid to not be together and ever since then, we’ve been inseparable,” said Jackie.
After hanging up his cleats with the White Sox, Kale accepted a job with a sports agency. On the day Kale proposed to Jackie, he was supposed to be on a business trip in Arizona and Jackie was invited by a friend to learn how to make sushi with three other friends at Saint Rocco’s on October 7, 2016.
“The evening was so beautiful so one of the girls suggested we take a cheesy picture on the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge,” said Jackie. “As we were walking on the bridge, I turned to my [future] maid of honor and asked who we should ask to take the picture and she simply pointed ahead of us and said, ‘Why don’t you ask him?’ My heart just dropped when I saw Kale standing there looking just as handsome as the first time I saw him.”
Jackie ran the 100-yard dash across the bridge to Kale as he asked her simply if she was ready for ‘”this.” Both families recorded the bridge proposal and later gathered with friends to celebrate with a rooftop engagement party.
“The bridge will forever be a special place for us,” said Jackie.
