Bridal gown designer Justina McCaffrey, known for her romantic silk designs and draping techniques, is in town this weekend for a trunk show to unveil her latest bridal collection, as well as four bridal designs that are exclusive to the downtown Neiman Marcus bridal salon. This is such exciting news for Dallas brides who want a special gown that is not available anywhere else in the world! The special four-dress collection is a collaboration between Justina and Neiman Marcus bridal buyer and manager Christina Plumlee. The two have been friends for quite some time and thought that the moment was right to collaborate. Plus, neither one of them has designed a collection exclusive to a store and thought it would be fun. “It’s so special to have a presence at Neimans,” says Justina. “I kept the Neiman Marcus customer in mind while designing this collection.”
Justina sketched 10 designs and Christina chose four to start. The pair had a back-and-forth for a number of months as they hashed out the silhouettes, necklines, materials, and fabrics. The dresses arrived yesterday and were debuted today at a trunk show for Justina’s latest collection (which is equally exciting as it will show in New York’s Bridal Week in April). Fun fact: Each gown is named after a salesperson in the Dallas salon. Here are more details of each gown:
From left:
Suzanne: This gown is made of light silk taffeta and it is easy to move and dance in. The neckline piece can be customized as either an off-the-shoulder look or strapless. The ruching on the body is a very flattering detail around the waist. The dress also translates to the deb world.
Mary: The taupe underlay is a big trend at the moment. Christina noted that Justina is very well-known for working with feathers in her past collections and she asked her to bring them back on this dress. You may not be able to see the feathers in this picture, but they are a delicate touch on the bottom of the dress. The French lace gown was designed as an asymmetrical neckline, but Christina (once again with the Neimans customer in mind) altered it to a flattering V-neck.
Kimberly: Justina took the dress off the mannequin to show me how intricate her corset construction is. The former lingerie designer knows what the bride needs underneath the dress to make her feel beautiful. (And not shopping for underpinnings is a nice perk!) The dress is lightweight and will look beautifully as it moves down the aisle.
Natasha: Christina explained that Dallas brides are still interested in a beaded gown, but weren’t going after the full beaded look. This dress has the best of both worlds: an intricate beaded bodice and a full skirt and long train. The shape and silhouette is stunning and the bride can still get a bit of bling!
Justina will be at the store tomorrow to help brides find their dream gown. If you’d like to try on the collection tomorrow or any time, you can make an appointment at the bridal salon.
